Mohamed Salah is more likely to sign a new contract with Liverpool if Virgil van Dijk also commits his future to the club.

This is according to former Manchester United and Blackburn chief scout Mick Brown, who remains very well connected in the game, as he revealed in an exclusive interview. Football Insider that Liverpool remain committed to signing both players to new contracts.

It comes just days after Salah caused a stir after admitting no talks had taken place over his contract following the 3-2 win over Southampton.

The 32-year-old has been heavily linked with a move to Saudi Arabia and will be able to discuss terms of a pre-contract deal from January.

However, Liverpool remain desperate to sign the striker to new terms and are expected to enter contract negotiations in due course.

Brown has now explained that if his teammate signs a new deal, it will provide him with added security and confidence in the club’s future.

Brown told Football Insider Earlier this month, Van Dijk is likely to sign a new contract and commit his future to the Reds, despite rumors.

Now the former chief scout, who has extensive experience of working closely with top-level players, including more than a decade at Manchester United during their most successful period, insists the captain’s decision will encourage Salah to sign.

“They’re desperate to get all three of them on board for new deals.” He said Football insider.

“However, it is very difficult to give any definition of what Salah is going to do because these negotiations have not yet begun.

“I think he looks and says: ‘I want to win trophies’ and they are top of the league at the moment, so it’s in Liverpool’s favour.

“But I expect him to wait and see what Van Dijk does.

“If he sees the captain committing his future to the club, it’s a sign they’re moving in the right direction and that will add momentum.

“But if he sees his teammates leave, what does that say about his future?

“So I expect him to wait and see what happens with his teammates before we hear anything about whether he stays or goes.”
