Brian Keefe is proud of the Washington Wizards despite losing streak

Brian Keefe probably didn’t expect the first six weeks of his first season as head coach of the Washington Wizards to go so poorly.

After going 2-2 in their first four games of the season, the Wizards have lost 13 straight games to remain winless in November heading into today’s final game of the month against the Milwaukee Bucks.

Keefe knew there would be losses, maybe not to the same extent as now, but he prepared for this moment and acts the same way as if the streak was not as long as it is now.

“You keep coaching, keep teaching and keep showing how to play the game the right way, and we take every moment to take advantage of it,” Keefe said. “Sometimes in these difficult moments I think you can grow. You learn how to have determination and resilience, and we showed that this year. I’m really proud of our group this year.”

Some trainers would panic at this point. Losing 13 games is not easy, no matter how you look at it. On the surface, Keefe appears calm and there is nothing to indicate that behind the scenes he is not acting the same, but it takes special determination to remain calm and act as is in this moment.

Keefe and the Wizards are a competitive bunch, and the more the losses start to pile up, the harder it becomes to stay the course. However, the Wizards need a coach like Keefe who can stick to the process, no matter how bleak it may be at the moment.

Keefe and the Wizards will take on Giannis Antetokounmpo and the Bucks again tonight. Tipoff is scheduled for 8:00 pm ET on the Fiserv Forum.
