It may be cold outside, but Mother Nature isn’t holding back the intensity of the Ohio State-Michigan rivalry.

That was evident at Ohio Stadium on Saturday, especially in the second quarter.

During the second quarter of the Game between the Buckeyes and the Wolverines, a fight broke out on the Michigan sideline after Jaer Hill kicked Ohio State freshman star Jeremy Smith off the field after a 5-yard catch on first-and-10. Fights on the field knocked one of the referees to the ground.

As Fox’s Joel Klatt noted, the fight was sparked by Hill tackling Smith seconds after the Buckeyes receiver caught the ball, bringing the game to “the end.” Players on both sides briefly began asking the referees to throw some flags.

After a brief discussion on the field, Ohio State player Quinshawn Judkins and a Michigan assistant standing on the sidelines were given unsportsmanlike conduct citations that were compensated.

Here’s how a field umpire falls onto the field as a result of a fight:

Michigan currently leads Ohio State, which briefly lost quarterback Will Howard a few plays later after a 7-3 second-quarter brawl. The Buckeyes need a win on Saturday to clinch a spot in the Big Ten Championship Game next Saturday and, perhaps more importantly, end a three-game skid against the Wolverines.
