Wolfsburg showed a five-star performance in Leipzig

Wolfsburg cruised to a convincing 5-1 win over RB Leipzig, with Mohamed Amoura scoring twice at the Red Bull Arena.

Leipzig 1–5 Wolfsburg Goals: 0-1 Amura (assist: Baku) 4′, 0-2 Thomas 5′, 0-3 Amura 16′, 0-4 Maele (assist: Koulierakis) 64′, 1-4 Orban 82′, 1-5 Behrens (assist: Svanberg) 90+1′

Wolfsburg arrived at the Red Bull Arena hoping to extend their four-game unbeaten run in the Bundesliga, while Leipzig were looking to bounce back after three league games without a win. The visitors, under former Leipzig head coach Ralph Hasenhuttl, have shown improved results of late, picking up eight points from their last four matches. In contrast, Leipzig are eight points behind league leaders Bayern after recent poor form. Marco Rose’s side went into the match hoping to claim their 100th Bundesliga win as Leipzig manager but were faced with a Wolfsburg side whose confidence had grown and had run an average of five kilometers more per game in their last two games.

Wolfsburg’s explosive start

Wolfsburg stunned the home team with an explosive start. Amura opened the scoring in the fourth minute, converting Riedl Baku’s cross. Before Leipzig could recover, Thiago Thomas doubled their lead just a minute later with a deflected long-range effort. The relentless visitors weren’t done there, however, as Amura struck again in the 16th minute, through the legs of Peter Gulacsi to make it 3-0. A shaken Leipzig struggled to respond to Wolfsburg’s clinical attacking play.

Leipzig’s hard battle

As the first half progressed, Leipzig tried to find a way to get back into the game. However, Rose had to make an early change: in the 30th minute, Nicolas Seywald came on for the injured Castello Lukeba. Despite having more possession, Leipzig struggled to create clear-cut chances against Wolfsburg’s well-organized defence. Meanwhile, the visitors continued to look dangerous on the counter-attack, with Amura and Tomas causing constant problems for the Leipzig defenders.

Wolfsburg sealed victory

Leipzig’s comeback hopes were dashed in the 64th minute when Joakim Möhle added a fourth for Wolfsburg with a close-range strike from a corner. Leipzig managed to pull the ball back thanks to Willi Orban in the 82nd minute, but it was only a consolation. Wolfsburg made several changes to maintain control, bringing on Yannick Gerhardt, Lucas Nmecha and Matthias Svanberg. The visitors put the final nail in the coffin when substitute Kevin Behrens scored in stoppage time, helped by substitute Svanberg, to seal a convincing 5-1 win.

Man of the match: Mohamed Amura

Amura was the standout player in Wolfsburg’s dominant performance. The Algerian striker scored twice in the first 16 minutes, setting the tone for his side’s victory. His pace and precise execution caused constant problems for the Leipzig defense throughout the match. Amora’s first goal demonstrated his predatory instincts, while the second showed his composure under pressure. Besides his goals, Amur’s tireless running and team play were crucial to Wolfsburg’s attacking threat. He had four shots in total, two of which found the back of the net, making him a worthy man of the match.
