Garrett Dufty has been appointed Environmental Program Coordinator…

Gwinnett Clean and Beautiful has named a former Gwinnett County Water Resources Department public affairs specialist to lead the organization’s water-related projects.

Garrett Dufty will serve as the nonprofit’s environmental program coordinator. In his new role, Dufty will oversee Adopt-a-Stream, Stormwater Defenders, Greater Gwinnett Wetlands and other water conservation initiatives. Dufty has been with Gwinnett County government since 2019, serving in positions in both the Parks and Recreation Department and the Water Resources Division.

“We are thrilled to welcome Garrett to the Gwinnett Clean & Beautiful team,” said Shelley Marlatt, executive director of the environmentally-focused nonprofit. “We have had a lot of fun working with him over the last two years in his role at the Department of Water Resources. He is very capable, as evidenced by his recognition as the 2023 New Coach of the Year award from Georgia Adopt-A-Stream. But more than that, he truly loves nature and the community he serves. When he’s not teaching an Adopt-A-Stream workshop, clearing nets from our WaterGoat, or helping the rest of our team at a cleanup or recycling event, don’t be surprised if you see Garrett strolling the trails of the new Harris. Greenway or bird watching in Harbin Park. This man doesn’t just talk talk. He goes for a walk. He is a certified Master Herpetologist and Master Naturalist. He sets a tremendous example for others to follow.”

Dufty grew up in Jefferson and has a bachelor’s degree in political science. He also served for one year with AmeriCorps Project Conserve in Asheville, North Carolina.

Gwinnett County residents interested in meeting Dufty will be able to do so at all future events scheduled through 2025. Adopt-A-Stream workshop or volunteer at the first Gwinnett Clean & Beautiful event in 2025.
