Former Alabama commit leaves UCF following Gus Malzahn’s departure

Former Alabama commit Jamarrion Gordon, who served at UCF, is now back on the move following the announcement of Gus Malzahn’s departure as offensive coordinator at Florida State.

The 4-star defensive back from the 2026 class has left UCF and Malzahn has left his position as head coach of the Knights, according to On3sports. The 6-foot, 195-pounder from Jackson, Alabama, transferred from his state team to UCF back in July, and now it appears Gordon has decided to go elsewhere because Malzahn has decided to go elsewhere.

Gordon reportedly currently has 26 offers. In a surprise move, Gordon is being picked by Florida State and Malzahn is reportedly heading to Tallahassee to become the Seminoles’ offensive coordinator. Florida also plays for Gordon.

Interestingly, the Gators and Seminoles will play each other on Saturday night in Tallahassee, which appears to be Malzahn’s new home in 2025 and possibly Gordon’s future home in 2026.

Gordon is ranked as the No. 295 overall prospect and No. 22 safety in the 247Sports composite rankings for the 2026 class. He is also the No. 11 player in the state of Alabama.

FSU’s 2026 recruiting class is one of the best in the country and already has 5 commitments. The Seminoles already have two defensive backs in 4-star defensive tackle Darryl Bell III and 3-star defensive tackle Tedarius Hughes.

With Malzahn heading to Florida State, the Seminoles could be in line for another major defensive commitment.
