Ghanaian gospel singer reveals how GFA wrote to German embassy to deny visa

Grace Ashie has revealed that the Ghana Football Association has written to the German Embassy denying her a visa for the 2006 World Cup.

The gospel singer was a supporter of the Black Stars when Ghana qualified for the World Cup for the first time in its history. During the qualifying round, the singer released songs that boosted the country’s morale.

Esha’s songs became synonymous with the senior national team as the Ghanaians motivated the Black Stars with their music during the historic 2006 World Cup.

However, on the eve of the tournament, the German Embassy refused the singer a visa.

Telling her story on Onua TV, the singer spoke about her relationship with national teams and the Ghana Football Association.

“When we were going to the 2006 World Cup in Germany, the first time I wrote these songs, then President Kufuor entrusted my trip to the FA. He told them to take care of me because I was of interest. women in football,” she said.

“I was everywhere, I spread the message of Black Stars on almost all TV channels. So I went to the FA to get a letter to travel to Germany and not knowing that the letter they gave me said that I should not be given a visa,” she added.

“That’s why the German embassy refused my visa.”

The five-time champions ended Ghana’s run with a convincing 3-0 win, the BBC reported.

Otto Addo takes responsibility

Previously, Yen.com.gh has revealed that Black Stars coach Otto Addo has taken full responsibility for Ghana’s failure to qualify for the 2025 AFCON.

The national team’s head coach met with the Ghana Football Association’s Executive Council this week to discuss the country’s disastrous qualifying performance.

The German-trained tactician presented a 56-page technical report on six AFCON qualifying matches.
